Because of my parents, I’m a wanderer. They conceived me on the road, near the borderline between Italy and France. My name is Rosario and I was born in Naples on July 17, 1973. My star sign is Cancer and my friends usually say I’m moody and romantic. Maybe in my past life I lived during the Romanticism Age. I’ve been wearing a pair of glasses since I was a little child. My childhood was very happy, cuddled by my grandparents Pasquale and Lucia. In my family, I was the black sheep because I used to bother my younger sister Rossella. My real passions came out when I attended high school: traveling and theater.
When I was 15, I went on my first journey abroad: my life changed after three weeks in England. I start going around and looking for people I could share my restless adolescence with. I used to listen to John Lennon and Beatles music and spend my savings buying theater tickets, LPs and videotapes. I menaced my parents to run away from home if they didn’t let me go to Paul McCartney concert in Rome: October 24, 1989, an unforgettable night! After my school-leaving certificate and my first journey in USA, I said to my daddy “I’ll go to the University, but I’ll study acting”. He wouldn’t have bet his life, I would have had my first-class degree. At the same time I worked as entertainer and actor. For many years I was crazy about Cinema: 4000 movies in 10 years were a visual shock!
So one day, working at Venice International Film Festival and writing for daily papers, I knew my way. In 2001 I woke up and said to my mum: “I have had with Naples! I move to Milan.” A new life, a new job, new friends, new experiences. In 2005 I crossed on the road the United States, covering more than 6,000 miles. I’ve been traveling all over Europe for two years, because I want to publish a book about this experience. Everything changes around me, but I still want to be the same one, without taking myself seriously. In fact, I let my friend Camilla Aro offer me this nice caricature!
Hello Rosario,
We share some interesting things in addittion to our last name. I am a second generation Italian American whose family has roots in Naples. I was born in New York in 1958, then moved to California in 1972, then to Montana in 1994. I have lived in very different parts of the US. My wife’s family is from Lucca. She also is a second generation Italian American… We must somehow in the distant past have a connection in our family tree.
